Cyprus' Health Minister, Dr Popi Kanari, had a meeting on Thursday with the head of the office of the World Health Organization in Cyprus, Dr. Shaikh Irshad Ali. According to a press release, Kanari, along with the leadership of competent departments of the Ministry of Health, had a first meeting with Dr Ali on issues related to the operation of the office of the World Health Organization in Cyprus, in the presence of a representative of the Health Insurance Organization (HIO) that runs the national health scheme, GESY. During the meeting, the priorities that have been set for the operation of the office in Cyprus for the next two years were set, namely, GHS's viability, the drafting of the national strategy on mental health, the management of hospital infections related to healthcare and antimicrobial resistance, and preparedness for a potential health crisis. The heads of the competent departments of the Ministry of Health were asked to carry out an in-depth review of the current situation and received instructions to prepare a road map that will lead to the achievement of the goals set, in collaboration with the head of the office of the WHO in Cyprus, it said.
