Government’s decision on GSI will be based on facts, says the Cyprus President

The Government’s decision on the electricity interconnection (Great Sea Interconnector – GSI) will be based on actual data, away from any ambiguities, constructive or otherwise, President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, said on Friday, adding that it is for this reason that he asked all those involved in the project to come to Cyprus to discuss “all the data we have before us”, as “we are a responsible Government.”

At the same time, President Christodoulides stated that “there is no different position” on the issue within the Government.

Asked on Friday, in the margins of his visit to the Third Technical School, in Nicosia, what is the sticking point concerning the GSI and why no decision was taken by the Council of Ministers, the President said that “there is no sticking point.”

The government, he went on, answers only to the Cypriot people and will take a decision that serves the interest of the people. This decision will not financially burden the state or the citizens, he added.

Rep
lying to a remark about the different positions on the matter within the government the President said that “there are no different positions.”

“One ministry is tasked with assessing the economic data, the other ministry is tasked with assessing the energy data and we take a collective decision. At the end of the day it is up to the Council of Ministers to decide” he concluded.
