Berlin: German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed his disapproval of US President Donald Trump’s conduct during a recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House. The meeting, which reportedly turned heated, prompted Steinmeier to make a statement aboard his plane en route to Uruguay.
According to Anadolu Agency, Steinmeier conveyed his astonishment and concern to the German News Agency (DPA) regarding the events of the meeting held on Friday. He remarked that the scene at the White House had profoundly shocked him, stating, “I would never have believed that one day we would have to protect Ukraine from the United States.”
Steinmeier further criticized Trump’s approach, emphasizing that “diplomacy fails when the interlocutors are humiliated in front of the whole world.” He underscored the importance of maintaining respect and dignity in diplomatic engagements.
Highlighting Europe’s commitment to core values, Steinmeier stated, “Europeans will remain committed to freedom, democracy, and justice.” He stressed the necessity of preventing Ukraine from facing undue pressure and submission, advocating for the urgent need of a strong government in his country to support these principles.
