German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is paying Cyprus a state visit, met on Monday with Colin Stewart, Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
UN in Cyprus posted on X that Stewart met the German President for a briefing on the UN’s peacebuilding efforts on the island.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied its northern third. Turkey has ignored numerous UN resolutions calling for the withdrawal of the Turkish troops and respect of the integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus.
