ANKARA: France’s ambition to be among the “top 5” in the Olympic Games is more “attainable” than ever, the French president said on Tuesday.
During a meeting with athletes at the National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance (INSEP) in Paris ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Emmanuel Macron said: ‘Our target of ‘Olympic top 5′ is more attainable than ever. According to estimations, France would see its best games since 1900.’
The president said these would be the “greenest” and sustainable games compatible with the Paris Agreement.
Macron went on to reveal the three challenges France must face during the games.
‘The first one is security. The terrorist threat is still there on the French territory,’ he explained, saying that 30,000 police officers would be on duty to ensure security.
He added the second challenge is about the smoothness of transport, and the third one is about the accessibility for disabled persons.
Paris 2024 will be held from July 26 to Aug. 11.
The French capital
previously hosted the 1900 and 1924 Summer Games.
