Foreign Minister departs to participate in the EU Foreign Affairs Council

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos will depart for Luxembourg on Sunday to participate in the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council meeting scheduled to take place on Monday, April 24, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday. According to the statement, the focus of the FAC's discussions will be, among other, the latest developments in Ukraine following the Russian invasion and the assessment of the EU's coordinated action, as well as efforts to de-escalate the situation in Sudan. It is added that under current affairs, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell will report, inter alia, on the current situation in Tunisia and Lebanon, developments in Iran, as well as on EU-China relations. During a working lunch, the Ministers will exchange views with Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on the European perspective of Georgia. The statement adds that before the opening of the Foreign Affairs Council, the Foreign Ministers will exchange views with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejcinovic Buric, and the Foreign Minister of Iceland, Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttir, whose country chairs the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe during the current period. In the FAC framework, the Foreign Minister will have an introductory meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, while his return to Cyprus is scheduled for Tuesday 25 April, the statement concludes.
