A 64-year-old female passed away on Sunday due to heatstroke and three others are getting treatment in Nicosia General Hospital, Spokesperson of the State Health Services organization Charalambos Charilaou told the Cyprus News Agency. The three patients are 67, 80 and 25 years of age. Their condition, Charilaou, said, is described as serious.
He said that in the last few days the situation has gotten worse because of the high temperatures and there is an increased level of incidents of heat exhaustion. But he said that the situation is being monitored. Charilaou said that the situation affects all ages and therefore the advice and recommendations of the health authorities are to avoid being outside when there are meteo warnings in effect.
He said that citizens need to be in cooler places with light dressing and access to lots of fluids.
Cyprus is witnessing high temperatures for the past couple of months and the met service has been issuing warnings for the public.
