Director of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFA) Marina Argyrou, met with Dr. Susan Steele Executive Director of the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) last week, it was announced on Monday.
During the meeting, that was held in Nicosia, Argyrou pointed out that it comes a few months after the EFCA patrol boat landed in the area of the Eastern Levantine and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus, which is very important and can be a focal point for further cooperation for fisheries control in the area both at bilateral level and in the framework of the Common Fisheries Control Programme.
During the meeting, issues related to fisheries control, the joint control programme for 2024 and other general issues concerning cooperation in the fisheries field were examined.
The EFCA Executive Director was also briefed on the national fisheries control systems, the patrol vessels and infrastructure of the National Fisheries Control Agency, as well as the Joint Rescue Coordi
nation Centre.
