It is very important that the EU, under the Spanish Presidency, is focusing on the rights of victims, Justice and Public Order Minister Anna-Koukkides-Prokopiou stressed today in a statement ahead of the Informal EU Justice and Home Affairs Summit hosted in Logrono by the Spanish EU Presidency.
'We are here for the second day for a series of important meetings in this Informal Minister's Summit in Logrono' the Minister said noting that during the Summit's first day a number of topics were covered as far as security is concerned.
As she noted, the Summit focuses on Friday on issues pertaining to justice. 'I think it is very important that the EU is focusing under the Spanish Presidency on the rights of victims' she stated noting that this is something that will be discussed today.
'It is something that maybe we haven't been paying much attention to, but now it's the appropriate time, especially with the new EU directive on victims' rights that has just come out" she underlined.
She also said that it is very important that the Ministers would also discuss today the accessibility of people with disabilities to the justice system. 'Because if justice is to be served, justice should be served to all' she said, adding that 'this and a number of other security issues concerning crime and gang related crime security issues will be also on the table.'
