EU construction production down in June

ISTANBUL: Construction production in the European Union fell 0.1% year-on-year in June, while it was up 1% in the euro area, according to data Eurostat released on Tuesday. Meanwhile, production in construction within the euro area rose 1.7% and 1.4% in the EU in June compared with the previous month, the data showed. On the EU side, civil engineering rose 1.5%, while the construction of buildings declined 1%, and specialized construction activities were down 0.3%. Slovenia saw the largest annual decrease in construction production, falling 19%, followed by Czechia with a 10.2% decline and Sweden with a 9% drop. Conversely, Spain saw the highest increase in construction production, up 4.8%, followed by Bulgaria with a 2.9% rise and Portugal with a 2.7% increase year-on-year in June. In the euro area, civil engineering jumped 3.5%, the construction of buildings rose 1.5%, and specialized construction activities climbed 0.4%.
