EP President Metsola arrives in Cyprus to take stock of ‘Amalthea’ plan progress


The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, arrives in Cyprus on Monday evening for a two-day working visit. She will pay a visit to Larnaca port on Tuesday, April 2, accompanied by President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, to monitor works there in the framework of the ‘Amalthea’ plan to transport aid to Gaza.

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis had said that the EP President’s working visit is, once more, a testament to the EU’s active interest concerning the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus, which enjoys international acknowledgement and support. He added that in the framework of the ‘Amalthea’ initiative efforts to further increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza continue.

According to the programme of the visit, released by the European Parliament Office in Cyprus, Metsola will arrive at 7.50pm (local time)on Monday at the Presidential Palace, where she will hold a private tete-a-tete with President Christodoulides.

On Tuesday morning, a
t 9.50am, Metsola will engage in dialogue with Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot representatives of youth organisations from civil society on the European elections, at the EU House.

Afterwards, at 10.25am, the EP President will go to the House of Representatives for a meeting with the President of the House, Annita Demetriou.

At 11.00am, she will depart for the port of Larnaca and later she will visit the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, where President Christodoulides will inform her about the “Amalthea” initiative.
