Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Petros Xenofontos, underlined the need for collaboration between governments and the private sector towards the undertaking of initiatives and measures aiming at achieving the environmental goals by 2030. Xenofontos was speaking at the Informal EU Ministers Summit that took place in Stockholm between 18-19 April under the Swedish Presidency of the Council. The Minister also noted that businesses can become pioneers in their sector, through the application of eco-friendly technologies and practices. He added that Cyprus, has implemented legislation to accelerate license granting for renewable energy source projects. Regarding the goal for elimination of greenhouse emissions, Xenofontos said that we should prioritize the investment in low carbon emission technologies. Regarding the elimination of plastic pollution, he said that a combination of financial tools and legal measures should be the basis of policies that will deal with the life circle of plastics.
