The share of net imports of energy products compared to gross energy availability, an indicator of Italy’s degree of dependence on foreign countries, fell from 79.2% in 2022 to 74.6% in 2023, according to the annual report on the national energy situation of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, presented in Rome Tuesday.
Electricity production from thermoelectric power fell by 19.3% (although it continues to cover 55% of demand), while production from renewables increased: +38.7% hydroelectric, +11.1% wind and photovoltaic, the report said.
