Election results to be finalised on Monday afternoon, Chief Returning Officer tells CNA

The final results of the June 9 elections are expected to be confirmed this afternoon, with no significant changes anticipated. According to the Chief Returning Officer Elikkos Elias, there is no possibility of altering the already announced results. However, some ballot boxes require verification to finalise the counts, and a few small ballot boxes have yet to be fully processed. Elias expressed hope that the final results will be known by this afternoon, with a clearer picture expected around noon. He explained that the party percentages for the European elections were final, though some minor adjustments are were made on the Election Service website, mainly related to the preferential vote counts. These adjustments will not affect the overall outcome. On Tuesday, the Chief Returning Officer will proclaim the Members of the European Parliament at 8:30 a.m. (local time) at the "Filoxenia" Conference Centre. Following this, District Election Officers will hold the proclamation ceremonies of the Presidents o f the District Organisations of the Local Government, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Municipal Councillors, Members of School Boards, Community Leaders and Members of Community Councils The schedule for the ceremonies in each district is as follows: Paphos: 9:30 a.m. at the Amphitheatre of the new Governmental Buildings, Nicosia: 10:30 a.m. at the "Filoxenia" Conference Centre, Larnaca: 11:30 a.m. at the Larnaca Municipal Theatre, Limassol: 12:30 p.m. at the "Panos Solomonides" Municipal Cultural Centre, Famagusta: 1:30 p.m. at the Cultural Centre of Occupied of Famagusta in Deryneia, Kyrenia: 2:00 p.m. at the "Filoxenia" Conference Centre Narrow Margins of Victory ---------------------------------- The narrow margins in some local government election results are noteworthy, with some community leaders securing election by a single vote. In Trimiklini, Andreas Orfanou was elected President of the Community Council with 169 votes (48.8%) against his opponent Kostas Kyriakou, who received 168 votes (48.6%). In Po lystipos, Georgios Nikodimou was elected Community Leader with 109 votes (50.2%) compared to 108 votes (49.8%) for his opponent Nikola Argyri. Additionally, in Sotira, Deputy Mayor Antonis Koumis was elected with 1,469 votes (50.1%) over his rival Marios Adamos, who garnered 1,462 votes (49.9%). Source: Cyprus News Agency
