ANKARA: Istanbul’s Eczacibasi Dynavit won the 2023 women’s Volleyball Club World Championship on Sunday.
In the all-Turkish final in China’s Hangzhou, Eczacibasi Dynavit beat VakifBank 3-2 with the sets of 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9 to win the world title for a third time in history.
They previously won it in 2015 and 2016.
Eczacibasi Dynavit’s Serbian star Tijana Boskovic scored 27 total points, including 25 attack points, to lead her team, and was instrumental in their victory.
Turkish outside hitter Hande Baladin scored 20 points for the winners, and Alexa Gray added 17 for Eczacibasi Dynavit.
VakifBank’s US opposite spiker Jordan Thompson racked up 33 points, including 31 attack points, to be the game’s highest scorer.
Thompson’s teammates Chiaka Ogbogu and Gabriela Guimaraes each had 16 points in the final.
Following the final, Eczacibasi Dynavit’s Boskovic was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
