Dutch football legend Ronald De Boer urges donations for Trkiye quake victims

Former footballer Ronald De Boer on Thursday called on fans to donate for those affected by the devastating Feb. 6 earthquakes in Trkiye's southeast.

De Boer participated in the "shoulder-to-shoulder" fundraising campaign organized by Trkiye's Youth and Sports Ministry, the Turkish Football Federation, Turkish Union of Clubs, and beIN Media Group.

"Turkish people need your support in this unbelievable difficult time. The earthquake destroyed many cities and many lives. I invite you to support Turkish people," De Boer said in a video message posted on Twitter.

Let's come together for the devastated cities in Trkiye as every donation makes a difference, he added.

The 52-year-old Dutchman helped Amsterdam club Ajax to win the UEFA Champions League, Intercontinental Cup, and UEFA Super Cup in 1995.

The campaign aims to aid quake victims and is continuing till June 15.

Sports figures such as European Club Association chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Pep Guardiola, Ilkay Gundogan, Kylian Mbappe, Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Ruud Gullit, Mikel Arteta, and Arsene Wenger have so far participated.

Magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes struck 11 Turkish provinces, claiming more than 50,000 lives.
