The diversification of energy sources, combined with the acceleration of the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, is noteworthy in Europe, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt, said on Friday at the Economist ‘Fourth Thessaloniki Metropolitan Summit’, noting also various energy projects such as the energy cooperation with Cyprus and Israel.
Pyatt, who served as US Ambassador to Greece between 2016 and 2022, praised Europe’s success in reducing dependency on Russia over the past two years, calling it impressive.
He said that the diversification of energy sources, combined with the acceleration of the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, was noteworthy both in Europe and Greece.
Among other things, he referred to the various energy projects that are running, or will be running, such as the electricity interconnection with Egypt, and the energy cooperation with Cyprus and Israel, for an electricity interconnection in the eastern Mediterranean, ba
