Tel Aviv: Ousted Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant revealed that his dismissal was primarily due to disagreements with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the conscription of Haredi Jews into the military. Gallant strongly criticized the proposal, labeling it as a ‘discriminatory and corrupt law.’
According to Anadolu Agency, Gallant also highlighted that his stance on the Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip contributed to his firing. In a video message, he stressed the irreparable loss of hostages’ lives and urged the government to negotiate with Hamas for their return.
Gallant further mentioned that another point of contention with Netanyahu was the need for a comprehensive investigation into the attack on October 7, 2023, which he described as a security failure that necessitated drawing lessons.
Following Gallant’s dismissal, Netanyahu appointed Foreign Minister Israel Katz as the new defense minister, as reported by the Israeli Broadcasting Authority. Meanwhile, Israel continues its offensive on
Gaza, leading to significant casualties and rendering the region nearly uninhabitable.
The situation has escalated to the point where Israel is now facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice due to its actions in the blockaded enclave.
