Different colour ballot papers for June 9 Elections

Voters will receive up to six ballot papers in municipal areas and four in communities, the Interior Minister said on Tuesday regarding the June 9 European and Local Government Elections, while also noting that each ballot paper will have a different colour for each type of election. Voters in municipal areas will receive up to six ballot papers, namely for the European Parliament elections, the president of the district local government organisation, the mayor, the deputy mayor, municipal councillors and school district members. In communities, voters will receive up to four - for the European Parliament elections, the president of the district local government organisation, the community leader and the members of the community council. The colour of the ballot paper for the European Parliament elections is blue, for the president of the district local government organisation is purple, yellow for mayors, brown for deputy mayors, white for municipal councillors, green for school districts members, orange for community leaders, and grey for community councillors. In the meantime, the Chief Returning Officer announced that, according to the law, the broadcasting, advertising or publication of any news or announcement, that is directly or indirectly linked with the elections, excluding announcements or news broadcast by the Chief Returning Officer, are forbidden on the eve of the elections or on election day, Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, respectively. The same applies for public gatherings and speeches and public debates on any issues directly or indirectly related to the elections. He also said that the presence of election campaign staff and the display of posts or signs outside polling stations regarding the elections is also prohibited on those two days. As regards exit polls on election day outside polling stations for the purpose of predicting the final election result, the Chief Returning Officer said that it is not prohibited in the existing electoral legislation, provided that the results wi ll be announced only after the announcement by the Chief Returning Officer that the voting has been completed and that the polls were closed in all polling stations.
