Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, addressed the opening ceremony of the Cypriot Theatre Week, on Wednesday, May 22, welcoming the fact that this year the Deputy Ministry of Culture is one of the co-organizers of the event. The Cypriot Theatre Week is presented in Athens, at the National Theatre from 22 to 26 May. It is co-organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus and the Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute, with the support of the House of Cyprus in the Greek capital. According to the Cypriot Deputy Minister of Culture, this initiative marks a "systematic effort to promote and enhance the visibility of Cypriot theatrical creation outside the narrow geographical boundaries of the country". "We aim to establish channels of cultural exchange, dialogue, and communication between Cyprus' contemporary artistic creation and the international artistic landscape," Kassianidou said. She also stressed that the Ministry of Culture thr ough systematic initiatives of cultural diplomacy aims at enhancing the extroversion of all sectors of the Cypriot artistic creation. "At the current moment, the free theatre in Cyprus is experiencing intense transformation, opening up to new forms expression, repertoire, and osmosis of ideas', Kassianidou noted, stressing that the three plays that will be presented during the Cyprus Theatre Week this year embody this creative process. Thanking the Greek National Theatre for hosting the Cypriot Theatre Week and the Minister of Culture of Greece Lina Mendoni for her presence at the opening ceremony, Kassianidou gave credit to all those who worked for the realization of the initiative and the creators of the three plays presented this year.
