ISTANBUL: The death toll from Dec. 29 Russian airstrikes in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv has risen to 30, local authorities said on Wednesday.
‘Unfortunately, following the attack of Dec. 29, 2023, one person died in the hospital from injuries received as a result of shelling. A total of 30 people died and another 29 were injured as a result of the rocket attack that day,’ the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) said on Telegram.
On Tuesday, Serhiy Popko, the head of the KMVA, said that the bodies of 29 people were recovered during three days of search and rescue operations.
‘The worst tragedy for the capital since the beginning of the full-scale invasion,’ Popko said.
On Dec. 29, at least 40 people were killed due to massive air attacks by Russia on Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the strikes as the “heaviest attack” so far by Moscow.
