Cyprus with 25 athletes in 7 sports at the 2023 “Krakow/Malopolska” Games

Cyprus will participate with 25 athletes in 7 sports in the 3rd European Games "Krakow / Malopolska" 2023, which will be held in Poland and the wider region of Krakow from June 21 to July 2.

According to an announcement by the Cyprus Olympic Committee on Tuesday, 48 European Olympic Committees are participating in the event, while the games are expected to be attended by about 7,000 athletes in 29 sports.

As noted, Cyprus will take part in seven sports with 25 athletes (12 Men, 13 Women), with the entries per sport including 8 athletes in Shooting (3 Men, 5 Women), 8 in Taekwondo (4 Men, 4 Women), 3 in Fencing (2 Men, 1 Woman), 2 in Boxing (2 Men), 2 in Archery (1 Man, 1 Woman), 1 in Karate (1 Woman) and 1 in Badminton (1 Woman).

In his statements regarding the composition of the delegation, COC President George Chrysostomou noted, among other things, that he expects the athletes to be competitive in an event of a very high level and in the best possible condition to gain experience, but also to achieve success whenever they are given the opportunity.

According to the COC, the opening and closing ceremonies will take place at Krakow's Henrik Reiman Stadium on June 21 and July 2 respectively, while all the events on the programme in which Cypriot athletes are participating are linked to the qualification process for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

More specifically, the winners of the Shooting, Archery and Boxing events automatically secure for Cyprus an Olympic qualification card in their event, while in the other four events, the results are directly related to the qualification process of each international federation.

One of the issues the delegation will have to deal with, according to the Committee, is the long distances from the main Games Village, as the competitions will be held in 25 different venues in Krakow and Malopolska provinces, the statement said. It is added that the COE has arranged for the delegations of each sport to stay in hotels very close to the sports facility of each sport.
