Cyprus has won its first Grand Slam medal in judo in Abu Dhabi. The 20-year-old judoka Zanet Michaelidou won the bronze medal in the -78kg category, making history.
At the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, Cypriot judo won two 9th places with Petros Christodoulides (-66kg) and Odysseas Georgakis (-81kg).
Michaelidou wrote on her social networks, “I won my first medal in a GRAND SLAM and the first medal in history won by Cyprus in such an event. A medal that reflects all the sacrifices, the tears, the pain”.
She dedicated the medal to her family “and to those who were, are and will always be there in victories as well as defeats”, as she noted.
