Cyprus: Turkey gives over $100,000 for missing persons

Turkey has given over $100,000 to the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) in Cyprus.

Speaking at a ceremony on Monday at the Turkish Embassy in Lefkosa, Ambassador Derya Kanbay said he appreciated the work of the committee.

Gulden Plumer Kucuk, Turkish Cypriot member of the CMP expressed her gratitude to the Turkish people and government, noting Turkey has supported over a million dollars so far.

The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus is working to return the remains of the victims listed as missing in the years 1963-1964 and 1974 to their relatives.

To date, the committee has identified 861 out of 2,002 missing individuals and returned them to their families.

The committee has representatives from the Greek Cypriot side, the Turkish Cypriot side as well as a neutral member from the United Nations.
