Cyprus’ prospects secured through solution, President says

Cyprus’ prospects and those of its people are secured through the solution of the Cyprus issue, President Nikos Christodoulides said Monday, pledging once again his strong commitment to the efforts underway for a solution.

The President delivered a speech at the University of Cyprus at the opening of a cartoon and sketch exhibition entitled “Fifty Years of Occupation, 1974-2024”.

He said that expressing his commitment for a solution is not just a rhetorical statement, but his strongest priority adding that Cyprus’ prospects are guaranteed in a reunited island.

Referring to the exhibition, the President of the Republic noted that it is an event of special importance because it takes us on a journey through time, via the pages of newspapers and magazines.

The exhibition consists of about 200 cartoons and sketches that have been published in print, in Cyprus and Greece, during the coup and the Turkish invasion.

It will be open in Cyprus until September 23 and then will be displayed in Athens.

Cyprus has b
een divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. UN led peace talks to reunite the island under a federal roof have yet to yield results.
