Cyprus President receives Deputy Prime Minister of the Holy See

The migration issue, the crisis in the Middle East, and the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus for the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, were among the issues discussed on Friday by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Holy See, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, in their meeting at the Presidential Palace, according to a written statement by Deputy Government Spokesman, Yiannis Antoniou.

During the meeting, the crisis in the Middle East and the situation in the wider region were discussed, he notes.

‘President Christodoulides referred to the immigration pressures that the Republic of Cyprus receives from Syrian refugees coming from Lebanon, while he informed his interlocutors about the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus for the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people’, he adds.

Archbishop Parra, Antoniou notes, conveyed the greetings of the Pontiff to the President of the Republic and referred to the strong ties of
the Vatican with the Republic of Cyprus.

He also notes that Archbishop Parra was accompanied by Archbishop Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, Nuncio of the Holy See to the Republic of Cyprus, based in Amman, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Holy See in Nicosia, Monseigneur Mauro Lalli.
