MP Panikos Leonidou, head of the Cypriot delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), is traveling to Hungary on Sunday, to lead a mission of the Assembly, following an invitation from the General Secretary of the IAO, Greek MP, Maximos Harakopoulos, according to a statement from the parliament.
The visit of the IAO delegation to Hungary is part of the Assembly's global campaign to raise awareness among international public opinion regarding the condemnation of the conversion of the Hagia Sophia Church in Istanbul into a mosque, it added.
The delegation is to be received by the President of the Hungarian National Assembly, László Kövér, while they are to meet with the Hungarian National Assembly Breakfast Prayer Group.
The delegation's schedule also includes a presentation of the special volume of the IAO, 'Hagia Sophia: The Temples of God's Wisdom around the World'.
On Wednesday, June 7, the IAO delegation will travel to Vienna, where they will hold separate meetings with a delegation of the International Catholic Legislators Network, the Catholic Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, and the Orthodox Metropolitan of Austria, Arsenius.
Serbian MP, Alexandr Cotric, the representative of the Greek minority in the Hungarian National Assembly, Laokratis Koranis, and Advisor to the IAO, Kostas Mygdalis, are also participating in the delegation.
