Cyprus MP in Vienna for an event to mark 50th anniversary of Turkish invasion

Parliamentarian Chrysanthos Savvides departs for Vienna on Thursday to attend an anniversary concert at the Concert Hall, for the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of the island.

The event is under the auspices of the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, a press statement says.

The musical event is organized by the Greek expatriate organization AHEPA of Vienna, with the support of the Lyceum of Greek Women of Vienna and the Cultural Organization Vienne Quartiere Artistico and it will be attended by important Cypriot artists, who will transmit, through their musical work, important messages the Austrian audience.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results.

The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
