Cyprus House condemns Azerbaijan’s offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh

The House of Representatives strongly condemns the large-scale military offensive launched by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, indicating that this action constitutes a violation of the agreed ceasefire and an escalation of violence by Azerbaijan against the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, on which it has imposed an “unlawful blockade for many months, violating fundamental human rights and cutting off access to basic necessities.” In a statement the House notes that further concern is caused by Turkey’s open support of Azerbaijan’s aggression and Monday’s statement by the Turkish President before the UN General Assembly. “The House of Representatives joins the international community in calling for an immediate end to Azerbaijan’s unprovoked and illegal aggression against the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, respect for the agreed ceasefire and de-escalation, to allow for the resumption of dialogue to achieve lasting peace and security” it is added. In particular, the House recalls its previous related resolutions and calls on Azerbaijan to end the humanitarian crisis by immediately lifting the blockade of the Lachin Corridor and restore human rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, in accordance with its international commitments and international law. The House of Representatives finally expresses full support and solidarity to the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and to Armenian people.
