The 12th meeting of the EU Military Lyceums took place on September 6 at the European Commission Representation in Nicosia, in the framework of the European Security and Defence College. The meeting was organized by the Defence Ministry's Security and Defence Academy with the contribution of the European Parliament and European Commission Representations in Cyprus. According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the Defence Ministry, the meeting was attended by 8 Military Lyceums from Italy, Latvia, Portugal and Romania. Among others, the three first winners of the forum's 2nd Essay Writing Olympiad presented their essays and the awards were handed over. The forum's objective is the direct contact and cooperation of all secondary education military schools, the establishment of common thematic areas (as the EU history, the EU basic values), the Common Security and Defence Policy and the EU Global Strategy) as well as their inclusion in the curricula of the military lyceums. Moreover the exchange of best practices and the promotion of a common European security and defence culture. According to the press release, even though the Republic of Cyprus has no military lyceums it contributes in a tangible way to the European education for the development of a common European security and defence culture. Moreover, it is added, it is a pioneer in may activities of the European Security and Defence College, under which the Military Lyceums initiative takes place.
