Minister of Interior Konstantinos Ioannou held a meeting on Wednesday with Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece Christos Stylianides with whom they discussed the immigration problem as well as the INTERREG Greece - Cyprus cooperation program. A press release by the Ministry of the Interior says that Ioannou informed Stylianides about the Ministerial Meeting on immigration held in Nicosia last week. The two Ministers reiterated the importance of supporting countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region, and especially Lebanon, so that they strengthen their reception systems and accommodation of immigrants in their countries, as well as the surveillance of their borders. During the meeting, they discussed about the INTERREG Greece-Cyprus Cross-Border Cooperation Program, the successful implementation of which formed the foundation for the development of cooperation between the two countries and led to the official cooperation to address the challenges of the management of migration flows, the press release says. The two Ministers reaffirmed the high level of cooperation between the two Ministries and agreed to examine additional synergies to increase the degree of readiness and response to the challenges presented at the operational level, it concludes.
