Cyprus-Eastern Med to be affected by frequent heatwaves says German Met Service

Much higher temperatures and frequent heatwaves will be affecting eastern Mediterranean region for the rest of June, according to the Climate Watch of the German Meteorological Service (DWD). DWD's Climate Watch acts on behalf of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Cyprus Meteorological Service says in a statement. The Department forecasts temperatures around 44-45 degrees Celsius for the next few days until Saturday with a drop in temperature to follow. But it will remain above the average temperatures for the season, which for the inland is around 34 degrees Celsius. Very high temperatures will be affecting the region between 11:00 and 17:00 and the citizens are urged to follow the instructions by the authorities. According to a directive of the Climate Watch Advisory Group of the World Meteorological Organization, in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans it is expected that by the end of June temperatures will be significantly higher than normal, while heat incidents will occur. The certa inty of the intensity and extent of the wave of increased heat stress is lower in the Balkans and increases progressively in the southeastern area. The weather conditions of the region create heat stress conditions in all areas and there is an extremely increased risk of forest. Countries affected are Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. Source: Cyprus News Agency
