Cypriots rate their life satisfaction at 7.2 out of 10 according to Eurostat

Cyprus rated their overall life satisfaction on average at 7.2 out of 10, very close to the EU average, according to a subjective well-being indicator which is collected by Eurostat, the statistical service of the European Union, as a part of its statistics on income and living conditions.

In 2022, people in the EU rated their overall life satisfaction on average at 7.1 points on a scale from 0 (very dissatisfied) to 10 (very satisfied).

For 18 out of the 27 EU countries overall life satisfaction was rated above (16 member states) or the same (two member states) as the EU average.

The rating was highest in Austria (7.9), Finland, Poland and Romania (each at 7.7), Belgium and the Netherlands (both at 7.6) and lowest in Bulgaria (5.6), Germany (6.5) and Greece (6.7).

Compared to 2021, the rating for Cyprus increased by 0.4 points (from 6.8). For the other two years for which there is data, the rating for the country was at 6.2 in 2013 and 7.1 in 2018.

On the EU level the rating was comparatively stable fo
r all four years for which there was data: 7.0 in 2013, 7.3 in 2018, 7.2 in 2021 and 7.1 in 2022.

Life satisfaction may be influenced by many factors such as age, level of education, family and financial situation, as well as the diversity of experiences, choices, priorities and values of an individual.

In fact, life satisfaction appears to drop gradually by age group, as age increases. In Cyprus, the rating drops from 7.6 (people aged 16 – 19), 7.5 (16 – 24) and 7.5 (16 – 29) to 7.5 (20 – 24), 7.4 (25 – 29 and 25 – 34), 7.2 (25 – 64 and 35 – 49), 7.0 (50 – 64), 6.9 (65 – 74), 6.8 (65 and above) and 6.6 (75 and above).

In the EU, the rating per age group starts from 7.7 to 7.4 for the three younger age groups, and gradually drop to 6.7 for 75 and above.
