The Department of Forests' mission to North Macedonia to address the wildfires was a very successful one, the Department of Forests said on Friday in a statement. In its press release, the Department says that the Cypriot mission returned home on the 14th of August after being sent on August 7th through the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union, to assist the Republic of North Macedonia to address the wildfires in the areas of Chashka and Sveti Nikole. According to the press release, the Cypriot mission operated for five days in various areas in the Republic of North Macedonia and helped to suppress several fire fronts. With its aerial operations, the Cypriot mission helped to protect homes, forested areas as well as other properties and human lives, it adds. Moreover, it says that in discussion with the competent agencies of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Cypriot mission made various recommendations to improve the way of addressing forest fires, especially in matters related to aerial me ans, such as the use of materials and foam in extinguishing forest fires.
