BEIJING: China on Wednesday welcomed the recent cease-fire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, while emphasizing the importance of achieving a similar truce in Gaza, a region that has endured prolonged Israeli bombardment for over a year. This development was reported by state media as part of China’s consistent advocacy for peace and stability in the Middle East.
According to Anadolu Agency, Beijing expressed its support for measures aimed at reducing tensions and advancing peace initiatives. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning conveyed China’s approval of the cease-fire agreement, highlighting its potential to contribute to regional stability. Mao reiterated China’s position that the failure to establish a cease-fire in Gaza remains a fundamental issue fueling ongoing unrest in the Middle East.
Mao urged all involved parties to collaborate towards securing a comprehensive and lasting cease-fire in Gaza at the earliest opportunity. The cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon, which was facilitated throug
h diplomatic efforts by the United States and France, officially commenced at 0200 GMT.
The truce was implemented shortly after U.S. President Joe Biden announced that a proposal to resolve the conflict had been completed. This development has raised hopes of halting Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese territories and putting an end to the year-long cross-border hostilities.
Lebanese health authorities have reported that more than 3,760 individuals have lost their lives in Israeli attacks in Lebanon, with over 1 million people displaced since the onset of the conflict last October.
