ISTANBUL: Beijing opposes violating the sovereignty of other countries and the abuse of force, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday about the recent situation in the Middle East.
When asked about the Israeli attack on military facilities in Iran and recent developments in the Middle East, Lin Jian emphasized China’s firm stance against violating sovereignty.
‘China opposes violating the sovereignty and undermining the security of other countries and opposes the abuse of force. The tensions in the Middle East are running high. Relevant parties need to refrain from further increasing the overall security risks in the region,’ he said.???????
‘The recent incidents once again highlight the urgency to end the fighting. The international community, especially major countries with influence, should take concrete actions to play a constructive role and create necessary conditions for the de-escalation of regional tensions,’ he added.
Israel launched three waves of airstrikes against military targets
in Tehran and western Iran early Saturday.
Iran’s armed forces said while most missiles were intercepted by air defense systems, some caused “limited damage,’ resulting in the deaths of five people, including four soldiers.
The Israeli attack occurred weeks after Iran launched missile strikes on targets in Tel Aviv in what it said was retaliation for the killings of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Abbas Nilforoushan.???????
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Sunday that his country does not seek war but will defend its people and respond in a “proportionate” manner to the latest Israeli attack.
