Beijing: China and France have jointly reaffirmed their ‘strong commitment’ to the Paris Agreement and emphasized the importance of enhancing international cooperation on climate change, in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the pact, which he argues will boost domestic fossil fuel production.
According to Anadolu Agency, the two countries issued a joint statement marking the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement’s adoption. They pledged to implement the accord in a ‘comprehensive, complete and effective manner,’ underscoring their dedication to addressing global challenges through a multilateral framework.
The statement also noted that the withdrawal of certain countries from scientific consensus and multilateral institutions has only strengthened China and France’s resolve to take decisive action. Trump’s withdrawal was accompanied by his assertion that the United States would not compromise its industries while China continues to pollute.
China and France reiterated their commitment to accelerating collective action against climate change, based on the latest scientific findings and acknowledging national differences.
