The President of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs Harris Georgiades had a meeting on Thursday with the new Ambassador of Jordan to Cyprus Basheer F. Zoubi.
Georgiades wished him every success in his new duties, and described Jordan as a pillar of stability in the region.
The two men underlined the very good level of bilateral ties and spoke about inter-parliamentary cooperation and actions to this end.
The Jordanian Ambassador reiterated his country’s principled position on the Cyprus problem and MP Georgiades expressed his gratitude for Jordan’s stance. They also discussed the situation in the Middle East and its consequences for the entire region and beyond that.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results.
The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
