Canada’s Prime Minister Declares End to US-Centric Relationship

Ankara: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared a definitive end to Canada’s traditional relationship with the US on Thursday, saying the era of deep economic and security integration has concluded. Speaking to reporters after chairing a Cabinet committee meeting in Ottawa, Carney delivered an assessment of bilateral ties with US while asserting Canadian sovereignty.

According to Anadolu Agency, Carney stated, “The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over.” He highlighted the uncertainty of US actions moving forward but emphasized Canada’s autonomy and power in shaping its own future.

Carney outlined the necessity for Canada to reduce its dependence on the United States and to explore new trade relationships. He stressed the importance of taking swift actions to achieve self-reliance, saying, “We can control our destiny. We can give ourselves much more than any foreign government, including the United States, can ever take away.”

The prime minister called for a collective effort from all sectors of Canadian society, stating that overcoming these challenges would require hard work and unwavering determination from governments, businesses, labor, and citizens alike.
