US President, Joe Biden, has praised President Nikos Christodoulides for his leading role, vision and decisiveness in the implementation of the ‘Amalthea’ maritime corridor from Cyprus to Gaza.
The praise was conveyed to President Christodoulides via a letter, which was handed to the President on Tuesday evening by US National Security Council Chief of Staff, Curtis Ried, during a meeting at the Presidential Palace, a presidency press release issued on Wednesday morning said.
In the letter, the press release says, the US President “praises President Christodoulides’ leading role, vision and decisiveness in the implementation of the extremely important maritime corridor to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza from Cyprus.”
“Biden notes that the relations between Cyprus and neighbouring countries have been instrumental for the implementation of this initiative,” it adds.
According to the presidency, he also said that the USA stand ready to work with Cyprus to address complexities regarding the project.

urther noted that Biden also conveyed that he directed the US military to lead an emergency mission to establish a temporary pier on the coast of Gaza in order to facilitate and enhance the provision of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
