Restoration of the Agios Ioannis Church in Argaki, a village in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus, southeast of Morphou, is expected to begin soon. Co-Chairman of the bi-communal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, Sotos Ktori, posted recently on Facebook a message, saying that the evaluation of tenders for the project has been completed and conservation works on Agios Ioannis church in Argaki will begin very soon. As he noted, the project will be funded by the European Union and the community and the UNDP will be responsible for its implementation. The project is being implemented in the framework of the activities of the bi-communal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage. Some urgent works on the church had been previously carried out by the Committee in 2021. Meanwhile, it was recently announced that conservation work has been completed in the church of Agia Marina in Diorio, a Turkish-occupied village in Kyrenia province. The project was implemented by UNDP with the financial assistance of the European Union and the community. Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage works to provide a mutually acceptable mechanism for the implementation of practical measures for the proper preservation, physical protection and restoration (including research, study and survey) of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Cyprus.
