Aris and APOEL continued their pursuit of the Cyta Football League table’s top place after the completion of the 24th matchday.
Defending champions Aris won 3-0 at home against Karmiotissa on Saturday to take their tally to 53 points, the same as fellow title contenders APOEL, who drew 1-1 against AEL on Sunday night. The two teams will settle their differences next weekend in Nicosia.
In third place is AEK, who after their 2-1 home defeat to Apollon are now tied with Pafs FC on 46 points, following the latter’s impressive 4-3 win over Ethnikos.
Omonia, who scored a big home win over Anorthosis 3-1 on Saturday, are one point behind in fifth place, with the Famagusta side now dropping to sixth with 41 points.
In the other matches, Nea Salamina returned to winning ways after three unsuccessful results, beating Doxa Katokopias 3-0 at Makarios Stadium, and held on to the eighth place in the standings with 34 points. In contrast, Doxa remained in last place with 12 points and is looking forward to a win over K
armiotissa next week in the battle to stay in the league.
The main competitors of Doxa and Karmiotissa are AEZ and Othellos, who drew their match on Saturday 3-3.
