Architects and environmental engineers can become part of the solution to the climate crisis through their projects and designs, Commissioner for the Environment, Antonia Theodosiou, said on Saturday addressing the 34th General Assembly of the Cyprus Association of Architects.
Theodosiou said that although she is now the Commissioner for the Environment, she maintains her identity as an architect and environmental engineer, noting that “our projects shape the space in which we live, the way we live, move, they absolutely affect the way we interact with the environment around us.”
She noted that the climate crisis is the biggest challenge for architects and environmental engineers today, adding that “we may not be part of the problem, but we can certainly be part of the solution with our projects and designs.”
She explained that every sustainable architectural project must be subject to an integrated analysis, making each technical choice part of a wider effort for active social participation and environme
ntal responsibility.
The Commissioner for the Environment said that the whole philosophy of sustainable architecture is not limited to the construction of buildings with a minimal ecological footprint, but also shapes and demonstrates in practice a way of life and an attitude against the climate crisis.
