• President Joe Biden called the midterm elections “a good day” for democracy on Wednesday and said he is ready to work with Republicans. Biden says he intends to run for president again in 2024.

• North Korea fired an “unspecified” ballistic missile Wednesday, South Korea said.

• With efforts to hold back Russian forces continuing, Ukraine’s parliament has extended martial law and military mobilization in the country for 90 days until Feb. 19 of next year.

• Türkiye’s foreign minister inaugurated the new Turkish honorary consulate in Shymkent, southern Kazakhstan.

• Air raid alerts have been declared across all regions of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, with the Crimea region excluded.

• A man was detained by police after throwing eggs at Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla.

• Facebook’s parent company Meta has laid off more than 11,000 employees, reducing its workforce by 13%, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced.
