We are participating in the EU Council of Ministers of Agriculture with particularly ambitious goals, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Dr. Maria Panayiotou said Monday upon her arrival at the Council in Luxembourg.
She also said that the meeting of the nine EU-Mediterranean countries under the Cypriot Presidency was wrapped up earlier and explained that its ultimate goal is to solve the problems faced by the farmers of the Mediterranean countries.
“We are participating in today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers of Agriculture with particularly ambitious goals”, she said, adding that the immediate response of the European Commission to the Council’s call for urgent measures to address the difficulties faced by European farmers and the adoption of the amended institutional framework by the Parliament in such a short period of time has demonstrated the flexibility of the institutions and given hope to producers.
She added that earlier the meeting of the MED9, the 9 EU-Mediterran
ean countries under the Cypriot Presidency, was concluded. She noted that Cyprus convenes these meetings to record common demands with the goal of reaching the common tools to solve the problems faced by farmers of the Mediterranean countries.
