Agriculture Minister-Egyptian Ambassador discuss ways to strengthen cooperation


Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Maria Panayiotou and the Egyptian Ambassador to Cyprus Amr Mohsen Hamza discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of environment, agriculture, water resources, agreeing, among others, on the need to speed up import procedures for Cypriot aquaculture products in Egypt.

According to an official press release, the Agriculture Minister and the Ambassador of Egypt met on Friday at the Ministry of Agriculture and reiterated “the long-term excellent relations between the two countries.’

In the field of agriculture, they discussed challenges commonly faced by Egypt and Cyprus, as well as strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of sustainable agriculture, with the exchange of best practices, technologies and expertise to reduce environmental impact of agriculture and promote sustainable food production.

Reference was also made to the preparatory work, which is in the final stages, for the sign
ing of Memoranda of Understanding for cooperation in the fields of water management and aquaculture.

Regarding exports of Cypriot aquaculture products to Egypt, the two sides agreed that efforts should be made by the competent Egyptian authorities to reduce the time of customs clearance and control of the products, to retain their market value throughout shelf life, but also shorten procedures applied during the physical and administrative controls of the products in Europe and in third countries, to facilitate trade and strengthen the economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
