Beirut: Six people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on three vehicles in southern Lebanon on Thursday, marking another breach of a ceasefire agreement, health authorities reported.
According to Anadolu Agency, three individuals were killed in a strike on a car in the town of Yohmor Al-Chaqif, as reported by Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center. Additionally, the Health Ministry confirmed two fatalities following a drone strike on a vehicle in the southern town of Barashit.
The state news agency NNA detailed that another Lebanese citizen was killed and two were injured when Israeli warplanes targeted a car in Maaroub. No further information has been released regarding the identities of those in the vehicles at the time of the attacks.
Lebanese media also reported Israeli artillery shelling in the Chaqif region early Thursday. Despite the ceasefire, which has been in place since November to end months of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, violations have persisted.
Lebanese authorities have documented over 1,250 Israeli ceasefire violations, resulting in at least 100 deaths and over 330 injuries. Israel was initially expected to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 due to non-compliance. Israel continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
