TOTAL BETS IN CRYPTO

CRYPTO VS FIAT

CRYPTO VS FIAT: SPORTSBOOK

Published by
Al-Araby

Local authorities in a region of northern Syria controlled by Turkey have decided to withdraw a school textbook that has sparked anger over a perceived depiction of the Prophet Mohammed, a local official said Friday. The book produced by Turkey’s education ministry was distributed Thursday and contains illustrations that resident deemed blasphemous. Italian police raid Juventus offices over financial irregularity claims

Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the Juventus football club for financial irregularity claims.

“Since this afternoon, on the orders of this Public Prosecutor’s Office, soldiers of the Guardia di Finanza (financial police unit in Italy) have been carrying out local searches at the Turin and Milan offices of Juventus Football Club Spa,” said a statement released late on Friday by the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office.

It added that police searched the Juventus offices to inspect the Serie A club’s approved financial statements and footballers’ deals in 2019-2021.

The financial probe seeks to inspect profits from transfers and agents fees during these years.

Six people, including its President Andrea Agnelli, Vice President Pavel Nedved, and ex-sporting director Fabio Paratici, are also under investigation.

Italian daily Corriere dello Sport said police were also inspecting a 2020 transfer between Juventus and Spain’s Barcelona, which was an exchange deal involving Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic and Brazilian Arthur Melo.

As part of the swap, Pjanic left Juventus to join Barcelona, and Arthur moved to Juventus in September 2020.

Italian football watchdog COVISOC and the country’s financial regulation body CONSOB have already opened their own investigation.

Sudan police chief, his deputy dismissed

Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Saturday dismissed the country’s police chief and his deputy.

A cabinet statement said Lieutenant-General Khaled Mahdi Ibrahim Al-Emam and his deputy Al-Sadiq Ali Ibrahim were removed from their posts.

The statement said Lieutenant-General Anan Hamed Mohammed Omar was appointed as a new police chief and Major General Muddathir Abd al-Rahman Nasr al-Din as his deputy.

The move came days after Hamdok was reinstated after signing an agreement with the military that put an end to a weeks-long crisis that threatened to undermine Sudan’s political transition.

Saturday’s dismissals came after several protesters were killed in protests against last month’s military takeover.

Last week, Al-Emam denied reports that police forces had opened fire on protesters during demonstrations against the military.

Before the military takeover on Oct. 25, Sudan was administered by a sovereign council of military and civilian officials which was overseeing the transition period until elections in 2023 as part of a precarious power-sharing pact between the military and the Forces of Freedom and Change coalition.

Ex-Liverpool, Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez announces retirement

Argentine football player Maxi Rodriguez on Saturday announced retirement from the game.

“The moment that I never thought would arrive finally came, or that moment that as a football player we don’t want to get to. The moment of closing my career as a professional,” Rodriguez said on Instagram.

Newell’s Old Boys’ experienced winger Rodriguez, 40, previously played for Spain’s Atletico Madrid and English powerhouse Liverpool.

“It is a very difficult decision to make, but at the same time, I am very calm with it. There were many years of my career and I think I gave myself to the fullest and I completely emptied myself. I have nothing more to give,” he added.

Rodriguez won the 2012 English League Cup with Liverpool.

His current club Newell’s Old Boys thanked Rodriguez for his service for the Argentine club.

“Happy retirement, Maxi!” Atletico Madrid tweeted.

Former Argentina midfielder Rodriguez scored 173 goals and produced 51 assists in 610 club appearances.

He played for the Argentine national team in 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Rodriguez helped Argentina reach the 2014 final, but Germany beat the South American giants 1-0 to claim the World Cup trophy in Brazil’s Maracana Stadium.

Thousands of police officers protest proposed changes to so-called ‘gag law’ in Madrid

Thousands of police officers and their supporters filled the streets of Madrid on Saturday to protest the Spanish government’s proposed amendments to a controversial security law.

This is the first time in Spanish history that members of all of Spain’s police forces (national, local, regional, and military) demonstrated together, according to Spanish daily El Mundo.

The changes to the law are still under discussion, but Spain’s progressive ruling coalition has vowed to undertake a major overhaul of the law that has been criticized by UN experts, the European Commission, and human rights groups.

Some of the most controversial points of the so-called “gag law” include hefty fines for journalists, or others, who take photos of police officers that could put them at risk, as well as strict limits on when and where protests can take place.

Besides getting rid of those laws, Spain’s government is also mulling whether to link criminal fines to income.

The police unions that organized the event believe the amendments will put police officers and law-abiding citizens at risk.

More than 150,000 protesters turned up, according to the organizers, while the government estimates the turnout was closer to 20,000.

“(The amendments) will send a message of impunity just as our forces are suffering more and more attacks … The principle of our authority must be respected,” read part of the protest’s manifesto.

“What is in danger is everyone’s rights and that violent criminals will take control of the streets.”

The “gag law” was passed in 2015 by Spain’s conservative Popular Party government after a wave of anti-austerity protests gripped the nation.

All of Spain’s right-wing political leaders joined Saturdays’ protest.

“When a government lets criminals out of prison and leaves judges, police, and military agents behind, this government doesn’t deserve to stay in power,” Pablo Casado, the head of the Popular Party, told media, referring to the release of jailed Catalan leaders.

“We are here to protest a law passed by the government and all the enemies of Spain and the constitutional order,” said Santiago Abascal, the far-right leader of the Vox party.

Germany confirms 2 cases of coronavirus Omicron variant

Germany on Saturday confirmed the country’s first two cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant, recently detected in South Africa.

The two people with the newly-discovered variant came to Germany from South Africa on Wednesday, said a statement by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health.

Reports on the new strain prompted the two individuals to get tested for the coronavirus, said the statement, adding that they have been in self-isolation since Thursday.

The statement urged those who have been in South Africa in the past 14 days to reduce contact with others, get tested, and contact the health department.

This week, South African scientists announced that they had discovered the Omicron variant, which has several mutations that may carry the risk of reinfection. The same variant was also detected in neighboring Botswana, as well as Hong Kong, and was first detected on Nov. 12-22 before being announced on Thursday.

On Friday, the World Health Organization declared the strain a “variant of concern,” naming it Omicron.

Several countries around the world have now banned flights from over half a dozen Southern African nations, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho, and Eswatini, over fears of the new variant.
