‫شي جين بينغ يُعلن لمّ الشمل ضرورة ملحة من أجل تجديد شباب الصين في الذكرى ثورة 1911

117-year-old woman beats back coronavirus thanks to vaccination

A 117-year-old woman in southeastern Turkey is urging everyone to get the coronavirus vaccine before it is too late after she contracted the virus following her second dose of the vaccine and managed to recover.

Muteber Engindeniz, mother of five from Hakkari province, shared her experience with Anadolu Agency of overcoming the virus with just mild symptoms thanks to her vaccination.

Engindeniz was in quarantine for 15 days after receiving her second dose four months ago and said she was happy to overcome the coronavirus with kith and kin in her village,

She said that she used medicine and ate well in quarantine.

“My children also supported me. We are engaged in small cattle breeding in the village. I used to head for the hills to milk the sheep. I can’t go anymore, I’m busy with the housework. I feed the chickens in the garden.”

“I’ve received two doses of vaccine. I’m very well right now. Fortunately, I don’t have any issue that requires the doctor,” she said. “I want everyone to receive the vaccine. We cannot beat this disease any other way.”

She said her husband died 19 years ago and she mostly spends time with his children and grandchildren.

Ever since her childhood, she has consumed natural food which she grows in her garden, she added.

Turkey gives over 112.94M COVID-19 vaccine jabs so far

Turkey has administered over 112.94 million doses of coronavirus vaccines since the country launched an immunization drive in January, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

More than 54.62 million people have been given the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while around 46.61 million are fully vaccinated, the Health Ministry said.

Turkey has also given third booster shots to more than 10.79 million people.

Separately, the ministry also recorded 33,860 new cases, 237 coronavirus-related deaths, and 30,110 recoveries over the last 24 hours.

As many as 357,636 virus tests were conducted over the past day.

Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed over 4.86 million lives in at least 192 countries and regions, with more than 238.52 million cases reported worldwide, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University.

EU commissioner, Turkish interior minister discuss Syria, Afghanistan

EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu discussed recent developments in Syria and Afghanistan on Tuesday.

“In the meeting today we discussed challenges resulting from the situation in Afghanistan and other areas of concern — challenges that can only be solved by working together,” Johansson said on Twitter.

Turkey hosts the most number of refugees in the world, mainly Syrians, she added.

Separately, Soylu met with Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, the head of the EU Delegation to Turkey.

“Within the scope of TR-EU First High-Level Dialogue Meeting on Migration and Security, we have held constructive and useful consultations on terrorism and security, migration management, fight against drugs and human trafficking, fight against smuggling and organized crimes, as well as current developments,” Soylu said on Twitter.

He thanked the delegation for its frank approach toward global and regional issues and hoped to further increase and strengthen cooperation and coordination.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that recent developments in Afghanistan increase the risk of immigration flow, and Turkey, which hosts over 4 million refugees, “cannot shoulder a new migration burden.”

Addressing an extraordinary G20 meeting via video conference, he proposed a working group on Afghanistan under the international forum.

Thousands of Afghans have fled the country to escape living under Taliban rule since the group took power on Aug. 15.

In a statement after the meeting, the G20 said to relieve pressure on regional countries, “options of safe and legal pathways from these countries for Afghan refugees could be explored in cooperation with the UNHCR.”

It added that G20 countries will support initiatives aimed at improving border management capacities in the region “to prevent illicit trafficking and irregular movements.”
