ANKARA: Two bodies with gunshot wounds were found in a burnt-out rental car in Sweden, media reported on Wednesday.
Swedish police confirmed that the bodies were discovered on Sunday afternoon in a charred vehicle in Malmo, according to The Independent newspaper.
The remains were found in a black car with Danish registration plates, abandoned in the Fosie industrial area near the city’s outer ring road, police stated.
Identification of the deceased has not yet been completed.
Local newspaper Aftonbladet further reported that authorities suspect the victims are British citizens who were murdered and then set alight inside the car.
No suspects have been identified so far.
The outlet also mentioned that a British man had rented the car at a Danish airport just hours before the bodies were found.
While the identities of the victims are still pending confirmation, Malmo Police spokesperson Kerstin Gosse indicated that they are not believed to be Danish nationals, according to The Independent.
